iTiffin

Sat Sri Akal! So here I am starting with my very first Blog. I don't know why-BLOG- such a beautiful piece of imagination, a piece of creativity is named in such an informal fashion. I mean someone could have done better by naming it something else.Let's leave the name game aside I feel, Blog sounds so familiar to Burp and both of them come after a satisfying meal. The former after an intellectual feed and the latter after a gastronomic delight. Hence my very first burp, I mean the blog is dedicated to the ever so familiar word Tiffin. The word itself brings memories and mixed feelings from childhood until the present stage of life we are currently enjoying. The excitement of a new tiffin box, the element of surprise it stores, the degree of warmth it holds from the maker, the joy of sharing it..and I can go on and on about the feelings. It's just a box but holds so many emotions that only an Idiot box can come up with.

Since my childhood, I remember tiffin had a share even in our teacher's scoldings. "Ghar se tiffin box lanaa to nahi bhoolte Phir homework kaise bhool jaate ho! "..no child can dare to come up with a counter answer to such an explicit comment. But I starkly remember a few times in my school when our parents sent us the Tiffin when we forgot it at home. Of course such incident happened usually due to the fear of the above-mentioned teacher who would punish students on reaching school late. The much-anticipated bell for lunch break rings and brings life back in school. Students in junior classes start animated chatter, they rush to wash hands, kindergarten students get help with their tiffins. The senior school students start a picnic party of their own..what I miss is those South Indian delicacies, the delectable aloo paranthas, the macaroni, and the puris...O God if You are reading this please let me re-live those moments... the teenage urge of talking to the beautiful girl in the class usually started with tiffin sharing, the different adda's for eating out- the cycle stand of school -  in winters..the stairs by the library ..the joy of hiding tiffin, having it in the middle of class...these are some memories immaculately preserved in heart and mind.

And here come the college days in Nagpur...tiffin is replaced by its bigger cousin The Dabba and believe me in the years I have spent outside my home, my body felt many structural reforms all due to the changing flavors with changing Dabbas..the element of surprise which I earlier wrote about was seldom experienced. The monotonous taste of potato in all vegetables, injustice was done to yellow liquid termed as Dal. These were the major ingredients that motivated me to start 'My experiments with Food'. It was the Punjabi mess i found later in my engineering life that brought my tongue back to different tastes and much of my body proportions were restored. I don't know what your experiences with Dabba are but mine are truly unforgettable.

In Delhi in my post-graduate college Dabba was replaced by tiffin again. It's a pleasure to see loads of  Idlis, rajma, chole, and paneer in day to day tiffins that my friends bring along. I am totally in awe by the tiffins we share here, bringing back much of the school memories. Someone said rightly- 'Life goes on in circles' and I believe my circle for tiffins has once again started from homemade tiffins. I just hope that the Dabba stage ahead which I will receive from my future life partner brings me more delightful experiences.

*The motivation behind the above blog was derived from the movie 'Stanley ka Dabba' and many budding bloggers among my friends.
